Community Center Committee prepares baskets for needy; donations accepted

Hello Snow Lakers: I hope you had a good week. As much as we travel you would think we would have everything down pat, to pack easily. No way!

Please remember, the Community Center Committee is now preparing baskets for Christmas. They are asking for your help by bringing non-perishable foods, or money to complete the baskets. Thanks for your help!

I don’t have anyone sick to report on. If you know of anyone sick or who needs help please call Sue Graves, 224-3264.

The Snow Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary still has a few sweat shirts (mostly very large sizes), and jackets at a reduced price, and cookbooks, $9.50. This is a good time to purchase these items - winter is here! They are on display at the Ashland Discount Outlet on Hwy. 4, Town Hall, or call Jane Edwards at 224-3435.

Remember Christmas Potluck is also a week early - on Dec. 17.

We are still on the ship. We will be stopping at Punta Arenas, Chili, a charming and historic port established in the mid 1800s on the strait of Magellan. Our next stop will be Ushuaia, Argentina, know as the “City at the End of the World:” it is a former penal colony surrounded by sharp granite peaks; the old prison, established in 1884 is now a museum. While we are here we will explore Teirra del Fuego, the “Land of Fire” with its remote location, raging wind, and rugged landscape. Here is a remote national park, protecting unique flora and fauna including the llama, parakeet and fox. The next two days will be spent crusing in the wake of Magellan around Cape Horn. We will follow the Drake Passage to the Atlantic Ocean and head north towards the Falkland Islands. The next day will be spent at Stanley, Falkland Islands. Stanley, the smallest and most remote capital in the world, still has the frontier appearance it had during the days when great ships stopped on their way around Cape Horn. Back to the ship -more next week.

Our Quote: From “Gentle Thoughts.” “There was never a person who did anything worth doing that did not receive more than he gave.”

Have a good week, and hope to see you next week.
