Community Center prepares baskets for needy families

Hello Snow Lakers: I hope you had a good week. We are covered up with leaves. We had the trees trimmed, but we should have had several cut down.

The weather is just right for a boat ride. So get into your boat and make the rounds. When you see someone, pull over and say hello. They might be one of the new residents I have been talking about.

Thanksgiving is so near and I mentioned last week that the Community Center is preparing baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are asking for your help by bringing non-perishable foods, or money to complete the baskets. Thanks for your help!

I just heard yesterday that Ed McCulley has returned from spending a week in the hospital with pneumonia. Get well soon Ed. If you know of anyone sick or needing help please call Sue Graves, 224-3264.

If you know of someone I have missed, please call me at 224-3913.

The Snow Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary still has a few sweat shirts, jackets at a reduced price, and cookbooks $9.50. This is a good time to purchase these items - fall is here! They are on display at the Ashland Discount Outlet on Hwy. 4, Town Hall, or call Jane Edwards at 224-3435.

Remember, potluck is a week earlier this month. The day is this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Remember Christmas Potluck is also a week early - on Dec. 17.

The Snow Lake Friendship Club had their regular meeting by taking a trip to Henco Furniture Co. in Selmer, Tenn., with eight members attending. First we had a meeting and lunch, while celebrating Laura Hoover’s 91st birthday. Happy birthday, Laura, and hope you have many more.

We announced the officers for the coming year, as follows: president, Edna Mackie; vice-president, Juanita Roberson; secretary/treasurer, Magda Russell; devotional, Pat Boston; reporter, Sue Shears. We planned our December meeting to be at Madga and Crue Russell’s house, on Tuesday, December 13 at 12 noon. The men are invited, and should bring a small gift. Secret pal’s gifts will also be brought to the meeting. We look forward to seeing all the group.

Our Quote: From “Gentle Thoughts.” “Half the joy of life is in little things taken on the run. Let us run if we must - even the sands do that - but let us keep our hearts young and eyes open that nothing worth our while shall escape us.”

Have a good week, and hope to see you next week.
