SUE WATSON A man suspected of involvement in burglaries of commercial-type buildings in four counties is in Tippah County Jail, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Tyrone a.k.a. Tireroam Rogers, 33, with addresses of 291 Richmond Street in Holly Springs and also Prescott Avenue in Memphis, was picked up and charged with burglaries in Tippah County. “We were contacted by authorities in Tippah County regarding the possibility of Rogers being involved in burglaries in our county and the city of Holly Springs,” Dickerson said. “He is believed to be responsible for many, many burglaries in these counties. Evidence so far here has linked Rogers with three burglaries in Marshall County and five or more in Holly Springs. I do anticipate several burglary related cases in Marshall, Tate and DeSoto counties regarding alleged activity.” Rogers also has a hold placed on him for charges of probation violation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections relative to charges in Tippah County and pending charges in the other three counties, Dickerson said. Libertyland closes Libertyland in Memphis, Tenn. has officially closed and will not reopen. The last day of operation was October 29, 2005. Libertyland’s closing became official Thursday, November 4, when the board of directors and certificate holders met for a final vote to close the 30 year theme park. The decision to close was based on lagging attendance and decreasing revenue. The officers, board of directors and staff want to thank everyone for their support and interest in Libertyland over the years. Acme Brick honors Bean Curtis Bean, a 43-year employee at the Holly Springs plant in the burning department, was the recipient of the Acme Brick, Holly Springs’ Plant Outstanding Contribution Award for second quarter 2005. Acme typically selects one employee per quarter for recognition at the Holly Springs facility. Government offices closing Friday for Veterans Day Marshall County offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day. City hall and other offices that do not provide essential services will be closed Friday in Holly Springs and Byhalia, also. An observance ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the school gym at Marshall Academy. Veterans will celebrate the day with a free spaghetti dinner for veterans at the Collins/Hurdle Post in Holly Springs Friday. Non-veterans are invited to come join the dinner for a donation of $5 a plate. Buddy Poppies will be sold by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Thursday in Holly Springs and Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Potts Camp, according to Donna Boyuka. Donations go to Disabled Veterans, Boyuka said. The next event veterans have on tap is Thanksgiving Dinner for families with needs at the VFW Post, according to John Boyuka. Donations are accepted.
