Snow Lake Shores receives grant from Department of Homeland Security

Hello Snow Lakers: I hope you had a good week. As I said last week -- fall is here! I don’t think I have ever seen so many leaves. We had our trees trimmed and raised last Saturday. My timing was off -- I should have had the work done a few months ago, then we wouldn’t have had so many leaves. We can see the lake now and our neighbors across the lake.

We have a new cat in the area - it’s black and brown spotted with a pink collar. We were gone today and it wasn’t here when got home. If you have lost one, please call me at 224-3919 and I will keep it for you, if I see it again.

Have you seen the beautiful Halloween decorations at the three entrances, and town hall. Aren’t they cute? Last month the Landscape Society elected new officers: T. J. Grissom, president; Scelette Blake, vice-president; Jane Edwards, secretary; and Ralph Edwards, treasurer.

T.J. and her goblins did the decorating a couple of weeks ago. Good job!

Snow Lake Shores has received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to develop an effective Emergency Management Team and plan. As a final check on the effectiveness of the plan, Mayor Blake announced a test exercise last Saturday at l0 a.m. He reports that the test run was successful and that all Snow Lake Shores residents can enjoy greater security in an emergency.

Thanksgiving is so near and I have failed to mention that the Community Center is preparing baskets. They are asking for your help by bringing non-perishable foods, or money to complete the baskets. Thanks for your help!

I haven’t heard of anyone being sick this week. If you know of anyone sick or needing help please call Sue Graves, 224-3264. If you know of someone I have missed, please call me at 224-3913.

The Snow Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary still has a few sweat shirts, jackets at a reduced price, and cook- books, $9.50. This is a good time to purchase these items! They are on display at the Ashland Discount Outlet on Hwy. 4, Town Hall, or call Jane Edwards at 224-3435.

I mentioned last week that I had seen lots of people fishing lately and wondered if they had been catching anything. One couple on the lake has had guests twice and they have caught some both times, so they are impressed with our fish supply. So just keep trying.

We have some new property owners, so when you see them please stop and say hello, and by all means, invite them to our meetings and potluck.

Remember, potluck is a week earlier this month and next month because of the holidays. It’s on the third Saturday.

Coming Events:
Monday, Nov. 7 - 7 p.m. Town Meeting

Monday, Nov. 14 - 6:30 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary Meeting

Saturday, Nov. 19 - 7-9 Breakfast, followed by Corp. Meeting at 9 a.m.

Saturday, Nov. 19 - 6:30 p.m. Potluck-moved up one week because of Thanksgiving.

Tuesday, Dec. 6 - Election Day. If you aren’t in town on that day, please vote before you leave.

Remember, guests are always welcome to come to any of our events.

Also, remember, the Community Center is available for rental to Snow Lake residents for a party, etc; just contact Emily Koen, 224-8707.

Our Quote: From “Gentle Thoughts.” “There is much satisfaction in work well done; praise is sweet; but there can be no happiness equal to the joy of finding a heart that understands.”

Have a good week, and hope to see you next week.
