| Job Fair set
for February By BARRY BURLESON The date for the next Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair has been set for Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006. An organizational meeting was held last week at Annies Restaurant to select a date and put an action plan into place for seeking employers and the unemployed. This job fair sets the tone for the rest of our year, said Adam Todd, associate director of the Governors Job Fair Network. Weve had over 20 this year, and all have been successful. The last one in Marshall County was on March 1 of this year. It drew 31 employers and 500 job applicants. There were 230 on-site interviews, and 293 job offers were made the day of the fair. Some comments from those attending included:
Susan Jordan, executive director of the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, said there were many quality applicants last year. They were prepared and sincerely interested in getting a job, Jordan said. The first Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair was held in October 2003. Twenty-nine employers participated, and the number of job applicants were more than 950. There were 307 on-site interviews and 392 job offers the day of the fair. Organizers are looking forward to their part in making the 2006 job fair the best yet. Some are already asking about it, Jordan said. The group also discussed different possibilities for promoting next years job fair. I feel if Holly Springs goes well, we will have a good year, Todd said. And no doubt in my mind, it will go well. Those in attendance for the meeting were urged to go ahead and start making contact with employers. Dont feel bad about any duplication, Todd said. They can always used that extra word of encouragement. Jordan said, I believe were off to a good start.
