Byers hosting Tip-Off Classic

H.W. Byers tips off its basketball season Saturday by not only hosting the Lady Lions’ Tip-Off Classic, but one boys contest, too.

Coach Jason Thompson’s Lady Lions begin the competition at 12 noon against Coldwater.

At 1:30 p.m., the Ashland girls face Byhalia.

The girls take a break at 3 p.m. as the H.W. Byers boys, coached by Gerone Kirkland, open their 2005-06 schedule by taking on Coldwater.

Then at 4:30 p.m., the girls’ consolation contest will be played between the Byers-Coldwater loser and the Ashland-Byhalia loser.

The championship game of the Tip-Off Classic will take to the court at 6 p.m. with the winners between Byers-Coldwater and Ashland-Byhalia going for the first-place trophy.

The H.W. Byers Lions and Lady Lions next host Ashland in regular season games on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
