The Marshall Academy junior high football team had little trouble with visiting North Delta on Thursday.

The defense dominated, while the offense cashed in big plays and overcame several penalties for a 35-6 win over the Green Wave. The junior high Patriots advanced to 5-2 on the season. It was their last home game of the year.

The MA defense opened the game by throwing North Delta for back-to-back losses, forcing a third and 22.

Marshall took the lead with 7:24 to go in the second quarter. A long drive culminated with a 24-yard touchdown run by Taylor Dempsey. Tyler Childers ran for the two-point conversion.

Dempsey followed with an 80-yard scoring gallop with just 48 seconds to go before half. The try-for-two was not successful. MA was up 14-0 at the intermission.

The next big scoring play came from Hunter Bolden. He raced 82 yards for a touchdown at the 6:43 mark of the third quarter. Colby Curtis kicked the extra point.

MA’s last two scores came on a 1-yard run by Childers in the third quarter and a 23-yard carry by Jake Delashmit with 2:08 to go in the game. Chad Mitchell added the two-point conversion after the final touchdown of the night.

North Delta’s only points came on a 3-yard run at the 6:01 mark of the fourth period.

The Marshall Academy junior high Patriots travel to SBEC this Thursday, Oct. 13, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The remainder of the schedule includes October 20, Lee (MS), away; and October 27, Tupelo Christian, away.
