White Oak Festival
• Perfect weather shines on Byhalia

The 24th annual Byhalia White Oak Festival enjoyed lots of success Saturday on a beautiful fall day.

“Overall, it was a successful day,” said Janice Wagg, member of the festival committee for the Byhalia Sports Association. “The weather was absolutely perfect. It was cool at 5:30 (a.m.) when we first got there, but when it came time to start (10 a.m.), it was just fine.

“A lot of people had a lot of fun, and some people had to kiss a pig.”

She said the latter laughing, as Wagg herself was a winner in the “Lady Kiss A Pig” contest. The male winner, for the second straight year, was William Rose.

There were 50 vendors lined along Church Street for the festival.

“Our attendance was down a bit,” Wagg said. “There were a lot of events going on. It was homecoming at Ole Miss.

“There’s always a lot of meeting and greeting. It’s just a good community event.”

She also praised the “wonderful volunteers” who make the annual event happen.

“We had (BSA) board members helping and other people who called and asked how they could help,” Wagg said. “This made it easier for everyone by having so many volunteers.”

Activities included arts and crafts, good food, games, motorcycle show, kids’ area, raffles and entertainment.

All proceeds from the White Oak Festival go to the Byhalia Sports Association. Co-sponsor of the festival is the Byhalia Lions Club.
