Public meeting for parents of children with disabilities

Parents of children with disabilities are invited to participate by providing input on all sections of the Holly Springs School District’s Fiscal year 2006 application for IDEIA Part B and Preschool funds.

The meeting will be held on Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holly Springs School District Superintendent’s office located at 840 Highway 178 East in Holly Springs. Parents are welcome to review the components of the application and provide input anytime during the day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. prior to the meeting.


August non-credit courses set at NWCC

Northwest Community College’s Division of Continuing Education will offer several non-credit courses beginning in August on the Senatobia campus.

Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. This course offers beginning chord piano techniques needed to play popular songs in any style. The instructor is David Haynes and the fee for the course is $45 plus the cost of the book and CD.

Water Aerobics with instructor Julie Correro is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m., Aug. 22 through Nov. 30 in the McLendon Center pool. This 50-minute class provides a low-impact, total body workout with excercises including strength training, abdominal toning and cardio/aerobic training. The fee for the course is $95.

Reading Roundtable begins Monday, Aug. 22 with a party and sign-up for the fall semester. This program provides a forum for senior adults to read and discuss books each semester. This semester’s books address the theme Living and Learning. The discussions, held by Northwest faculty and staff, are held the last Monday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. in the law room of the R.C. Pugh Library. The fee for the program is $5 for every book provided by Northwest.

Lunch and Learn is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 24 at noon. This program, designed for adults age 50 and older in Senatobia and its surrounding communities, provides an opportunity to interact with Northwest faculty, staff and administrators. Following lunch in the David M. Haraway Center, Vice President Dan Smith will give a tour of the Haraway Center and introduce the staff. The cost of lunch is $5 and reservations should be made no later than the Monday before each Wednesday meeting by calling 662-560-1103.
