We have the greatest season of the year (no, not for everyone, but for many of us) starting in just a matter of weeks and we still have vestiges of the third greatest season lingering to pique our interest (and confuse us). BURLESON The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots opened the softball season this week with their eyes on a state tournament berth. The Lady Patriots fell just one win short of the state tournament last season and finished 19-10. Coaches Louanne Tomlinson and Carlton Gibson fielded the youngest team in last years North AA Tournament, thus most of the successful team returns in 2005. Marshall began the campaign Monday and Tuesday of this week with road trips to Lee (Clarksdale) and Kirk (Grenada). The Lady Patriots play in the Bayou Tournament this Saturday at Cleveland. Their first home game is next Monday, Aug. 8, at 4 p.m. against Bayou. Softball coaches meeting Thursday The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting entry fees for the adult fall softball season for men and women. There will be a coaches meeting on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Eddie L. Smith Jr. Multi-Purpose Building. Basketball tournament meeting planned The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department will hold a mens and womens basketball tournament meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11. It will be held at the Eddie L.
