Ayers, Hannah, Hayes lead North to all-star game win
• Ayers scores 31, earns MVP honor, wins dunking contest

The Holly Springs High School duo of Brandon Ayers and Clevin Hannah combined for 45 points in the North’s win Thursday night.

Ayers was the shooting star of the 51st annual Mississippi High School all-star boys basketball game at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton. He scored 31 points, just missing an all-star record of 32 tallied by Doug Hutton of Clinton in 1960, as the North defeated the South 90-80.

Football season draws near; Patriots start practice Monday

Believe it or not, high school football practice starts next week for one Marshall County team.

The Marshall Academy Patriots open preseason drills next Monday, July 25. The public schools, Holly Springs and Byhalia, start practice a week later, Monday, Aug. 1.

It is really a pleasure to write about two strong men who were (and still are, in one case) representing the United States on different parts of the globe. I am not sure that you could find a pair of nonassuming individuals who have already achieved mega star status.
