looks for executive director By
SUE WATSON The Marshall County Industrial Development Authority will search for a new executive director with the retirement of Mike Thornton this month. Del Stover, a member of the IDA board of directors, is serving as interim executive director. Thornton will continue on as a part-time consultant to the board until the slot is filled. A regional search for an executive officer will be conducted, Stover said. The IDA office is accepting resumes and anyone is welcome to submit one to the IDA office, he said. A search committee formed last week will decide when to ask for applications. During Thorntons two tenures as executive director IDA was successful in attracting several new industries including Thomas & Betts and the private prison to Marshall County. Several industry closings were replaced with new ones. Coleman was replaced by Terex and when that industry left, Abbey Manufacturing came in. When the Sunbeam plant closed, ABTCO moved in and when it left LP Vinyl came in that facility. Thornton has been involved in the development and expansion of Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park and recently has helped develop a plan for the expansion of sewer service to the park, Stover said.
