blanks rival Cardinals
H.W. Byers erupted for seven runs in the third inning on Tuesday of last week at home and went on to blank Marshall County rival Potts Camp 9-0.
It was an important district game for coach Eddie Dixons Lions, who are again eyeing the state playoffs.
Cordell Boyce was a strong force on the mound for the Lions. He entered in the third inning when Potts Camp had the bases loaded with one out and struck out the next two batters.
Boyce had seven strikeouts in the game in relief of starter Tristan Kizer.
He shut us down, Potts Camp Head Coach Jeff King said about Boyce.
Some of the leaders for a hot Byers offense were Victoren Hooker, Devin Moore, Nick Tate, Brian Penilton and Brandon Stern.
Jake Howell pitched into the third inning for the Cardinals and was relieved by Korbin Stanton.
Potts Camp had just three hits a double by Eric Tucker and a single each from Nathan Smith and Brandon Hendricks.
H.W. Byers was slated to visit Myrtle on Tuesday. They will host Hickory Flat Friday at 5 p.m. and then go to West Union Saturday at 5 p.m. All are division games.
Potts Camp was scheduled to travel to West Union on Monday and then host Hickory Flat on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Cardinals then go to Myrtle Thursday for a 5 p.m. first pitch. Saturday, they host a doubleheader, the first game against Ashland at 12 noon and the second game versus Myrtle at 4 p.m.
Next Monday, April 18, they will travel to Blue Mountain for a 4 p.m. matchup.
