Lady Cardinals drop two to Rebels

The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals remained winless last week in their inaugural fast pitch softball season despite battling rival Hickory Flat tooth-and-nail.

Coach Jeff King’s team, playing at home, dropped 8-7 and 17-11 decisions to the Lady Rebels.

“We played well in the first game,” King said. “I thought we were going to win it.”

Potts Camp had the tying runner on third with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

“But we grounded out and couldn’t score the run,” King said.

In the nightcap, he played a lot of his younger girls.

“We made some errors, but I liked our effort,” said King, whose Lady Cardinals dropped to 0-4 on the season. “We were down 15-2 and battled back.”

Kortny Tucker was the winning pitcher in both games for Hickory Flat, which improved to 7-5.

The Lady Rebels had nine hits in the one-run victory and 13 hits in the six-run win. Getting multiple hits in the two games were Amy Flint, Tiffany Allen, Sharrette Massey and Meghan McKenzie.

Laken Cook took the mound loss in game one for Potts Camp, while Ashton Gandy was the losing pitcher in game two.

Potts Camp had four hits in each of the two contests.

The Lady Cardinals were scheduled to face Independence on Monday of this week, and Thursday they close the season at Falkner.
