The Byhalia Indians evened their district record last week with a two-run win at Alcorn Central.

Coach Bubba Brown’s crew used some hot hitting to turn back the Bears 8-6 Thursday and go to 2-2 in the region.

Jeremy Lucas slapped a double and a single for the Indians, while Brandon Byers and Montrell Hardaway each had two singles. Courtney Hardaway connected for a home run.

Tyson McAlexander contributed a double. Getting a single each were Dean Miller, Demarius Moore, Corey Parker and Corey Deberry.

Miller pitched the first five innings. C. Hardaway picked up the pitching victory in relief.

The Class 3A Indians then invaded non-district, Class 5A foe Olive Branch Saturday and gave the Conquistadors a fight before losing 8-3.

M. Hardaway had a homer. Lucas added a double. Byers, Deberry and Parker each had a single.

The Indians hosted Corinth in a district contest on Tuesday of last week, and the game was postponed with the score tied at 8-8.

“We will finish the game when we go to their place,” Brown said. “We ran out of daylight.”

Byhalia (7-6 overall) was scheduled to host Kossuth Monday and North Pontotoc Tuesday. The Indians then host Alcorn Central Friday at 4 p.m. and Hernando Saturday at 3 p.m.
