The Potts Camp Cardinals rode the one-hit pitching of Korbin Stanton to a 12-2 win over Blue Mountain last Friday.

Stanton also struck out five and walked just three in earning the victory, his team’s first of the young season.

“He pitched very well,” said head coach Jeff King. “It feels good to get a win.”

The Cardinals had eight hits, led by Jake Howell and Eric Tucker with two hits each.

“We played real good defense, too,” King said. “We only made one error.

“We need to continue to improve on our hitting. Our defense and pitching have been pretty good.”

Potts Camp scored three runs in the third, six in the fourth and then three in the fifth to end the game by the 10-run rule.

The victory upped Potts Camp’s record to 1-4 and evened their division mark at 1-1.

The Cardinals were scheduled to visit Hickory Flat on Tuesday. They host West Union on Thursday.

Both are important division contests.
