- MAUNDY
THURSDAY Victoria and Red Banks United Methodist
Churches will observe Maundy Thursday, March 24,
with a special service of Holy Communion at 6
p.m. in the Victoria UMC sanctuary. Tenebrae, or
darkness will follow, presenting an
extended Scriptural meditation on the Passion of
Jesus, based on St. Matthews Gospel. As the
service progresses, the Tenebrae candles are
extinguished gradually, reflecting the physical
and emotional pain of the Passion. Eventually,
the sanctuary is left momentarily in darkness.
The observance will close with the stripping of
the altar and the draping of the cross. The
public is cordially invited to attend. For more
